'My daughter got 27 Christmas gifts and her brother got one – I don't see the problem'

A man has sparked a debate after showering his daughter with Christmas presents while her brother received a singular gift. He explained how he shares custody of his seven-year-old daughter, Zara, with his ex-partner, who fell pregnant with another man's child while they were in a relationship.
She raises her son, now aged five, alone as the child's father does not want to be involved in his young son's life. Explaining their relationship, he said: "I kicked her out and now she lives in a two bedroom apartment in an awful area. She also told her son I was his dad for whatever reason. Because of this, we only physically interact whenever I pick up or drop off Zara.".
He went on to share how Zara was born on Christmas Eve – and, not wanting her to miss out on presents due to the festive season, he goes all-out to get everything on her birthday and Christmas wish lists. He said: "This year I bought 20, plus five from my brother and two from her mother.
"My ex didn’t get the bonus she had hoped for from work which she was relying on for Christmas dinner. When picking up my daughter she told me her mom had asked her to ask me 'Can we spend Christmas as one family this year'. "I have a closer bond with my daughter than my ex does, so she was honest with me about the situation. I asked her if she was ok with the idea, and she told me she didn’t mind as long as her half-brother didn’t mess with her things. I agreed to respect her boundaries.".
But after seeing how many gifts her daughter had compared to her son, the mum's face turned red with anger and she started yelling. He said: "She got angry quickly and pulled me to the kitchen and quietly screamed at me. She called me selfish and greedy not just for buying Zara too many presents but for the price of them.
