A woman is conflicted after her pregnant sister kicked off when she refused to allow her to use her wedding for her gender reveal party. Gender reveal parties and events have ramped up in popularity in recent years, with some parents-to-be going to extreme lengths to concoct elaborate or particularly creative methods to share whether they’re having a boy or a girl.

One 29-year-old woman is getting married to her fiancé in a few months and, despite the planning being “a bit of a circus”, she and her partner are excited to “finally” be “getting everything together”. Adding to the excitement, her younger sister is pregnant with her first child. The bride described her sister as “one of those Pinterest-loving, gender-reveal-party enthusiasts” with a particular penchant for “a terrifying mix of pink and blue confetti, cake explosions, and, at one point, a questionable plan involving coloured smoke bombs”.

Things took a turn recently when, at a family dinner, she “casually” explained she’d love to have her gender reveal take part during the woman’s wedding reception, when everyone is “already gathered” and “spirits are high”. On Reddit, the woman explained: “She even had a plan ready: halfway through the reception, she’d cut the cake, and boom, it’s either pink or blue inside. She seemed genuinely excited, but I was a bit taken aback.
