Stranger Things fans have discovered a hidden 'Easter egg' that pays homage to one of the main cast's previous roles. The popular Netflix series, which follows a group of kids as they uncover supernatural forces and government secrets, is set to release its final season this year. The show features a star-studded cast including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Noah Schnapp, Caleb McLaughlin, Sadie Sink, Gaten Matarazzo, David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Charlie Heaton, Natalia Dyer, Joe Keery, Maya Hawke and Jamie Campbell Bower, among others.
TikTok user Ivan Mars, known as The Movie Detective, spotted the Easter egg in the second episode of the third season, which references Ryder's role as Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice. For a brief moment, viewers can spot Beetlejuice's gravestone when Joyce Byers, played by Ryder, visits school teacher Scott Clarke, played by Randy Havens. Fans were quick to comment on the discovery, with one saying: "Damn dude! You really about this life. Lol love it." Another pointed out: "There is a mirror at Joyce’s house that’s from Edward Scissorhands too." And a third chimed in: "Yeah, that's epic.".
But some pointed out a timeline issue, saying: "Correct me if I'm wrong, but Beetlejuice came out 1988. And the timeliness set up for this is in the 80s." Another chimed in with: "Stranger Things was supposed to take place in the summer of 85 but Beetlejuice didn't come out until 1988.". Production for the eagerly anticipated fifth season of Stranger Things has concluded, and the show is currently being edited ahead of its release later this year. In a heartfelt Instagram post, producer Ross Duffer shared: "We’ve been telling this story for nearly a decade now. Many of our cast members joined us when they were kids, just ten or eleven years old. It wasn’t just a show for them – it was a defining part of their childhood.".
He continued: "They’ve grown up before our eyes, becoming more than actors – they’ve become family. But it’s not just the cast we consider family. Our crew – many of whom have been with us from the very beginning – holds a special place in our hearts. Their dedication and passion have been the backbone of this journey.". Duffer concluded with a message of gratitude and anticipation, adding: "Everyone involved was determined to bring this story to a satisfying conclusion. They poured their hearts and souls into it, and we couldn’t be more proud of what they’ve accomplished. We can’t wait to share it with you all. Until then – over and out.".
