The finale of Squid Game season two has left Netflix's devoted fanbase dangling with a mixed bag of emotions. The South Korean drama landed onto our screens over two years ago, mesmerising viewers across the globe, smashing records and crowning itself as Netflix's reigning champion in viewership.
With the show securing a sophomore run, it hardly came as a surprise but what did catch fans off-guard was the enduring wait before they could feast their eyes on the new instalments. When the announcement hit that Squid Game's next round would be hitting screens on Boxing Day, Thursday, December 26, subscribers were ecstatic at the prospect of some festive binge-watching.
This latest outing, consisting of two fewer episodes than the first season, had fans gripped until the seventh episode cliffhanger. Following a brutal fight between contestants and guards, Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) and his childhood friend Jung-bae (Leo Seo-hwan) come face-to-face with the menacing Front Man.
Front Man coldly warns Gi-hun: "Look closely at the consequences of your little hero game", before killing Jung-bae in cold blood. Toppled to the floor by guards, an anguished Gi-hun watches Front Man depart, leaving him to howl in torment for Jung-bae, as the screen plunges into darkness, bringing the season to an end.
Meanwhile, social media platforms have been set aflame with fans venting their frustration at the season finale cliffhanger. Viewers have been voicing their discontent over the latest season of 'Squid Game', with one fan expressing deep frustration: "I waited years for this man, and it ends like that, the season actually felt good but it was too short. Like come on, 3 years for only seven episodes and this ending bro.".
