Marcus Rashford could be handed an escape route from his Manchester United nightmare by German club Borussia Dortmund. Dortmund are understood to be among a handful of European clubs willing to take Rashford on loan until the end of the season, after the forward was exiled by United boss Ruben Amorim.

Italian giants AC Milan and Juventus, as well as several Premier League clubs, have also expressed interest in taking Rashford on loan for the remainder of the campaign. Although United would prefer a permanent sale for £40million-rated Rashford, they accept that is unlikely to happen in the January transfer window, with the summer the best option for that.

Rashford has been omitted for five of United's last six matchday squads, since being axed from the Manchester derby on December 15 at the Etihad Stadium, which Amorim's side won 2-1. Although Amorim claimed the decision to omit Rashford was not a disciplinary issue, the 27-year-old has not played for United since and was an unused sub in their 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle.

Rashford responded to his omission from the derby by giving an interview, in which he expressed his desire for “a new challenge”, a disclosure which is said to be the reason for his continued exile. United and Dortmund have worked together on deals in the past, most recently this time last year when Jadon Sancho – ostracised by then boss Erik ten Hag- went to the Bundesliga side on loan for the rest of the season.
