Weather forecasters have predicted that the start of 2025 will be kicked off with snow covering almost the entire country. Newly released WX Chart weather maps show large areas of the UK covered in snow on New Year’s Day. The maps show that the north of the country will be the first to be hit by the snow blast, and then from 12 noon on January 1, the snow may stretch further down the country, towards Birmingham and the Midlands.
Most of Wales will be caught in the snow storm, as will the majority of Northern Ireland. While these WX weather charts predict snow for New Year’s Day, the official Met Office long-range forecast mentions only ‘frost and fog’. The maps, which have turned various shades of purple, suggest that heavy snow may also occur as far south as Devon on New Year’s Eve. While London could see up to 1.5cm of snow falling per hour at midnight on New Year’s Eve.
The West Midlands and East of England may also be covered in snow, with depths estimated to reach around 0.6cm. While Wales may see heavier snow, with 2cm falling every hour, and the same amount of snow predicted for Somerset. Hastings, Dover and Brighton are also predicted to receive a New Year’s Eve flurry of snow, with 1-2cm of snow falling per hour. While London is in line to get 0.4-0.6cm of snow per hour throughout the night.
It’s not just New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve when we could see snow - according to both WX Charts and the Met Office, some snowfall has been predicted ahead of Christmas Day. While WX charts predict that we may see snow as far south as Birmingham, the MetOffice has revealed that they believe the snowfall will be restricted to areas of higher ground.
