A UK restaurant is charging customers a jaw-dropping £100 if they want pineapple on their pizza - and have made it clear why they think it deserves such a high price tag. Lupa Pizza in Norwich have priced the controversial pizza far higher than the rest of their offerings on Deliveroo to put people off from ordering it. On the the menu, where the average pizza costs about £11.70, a tongue-in-cheek message below the item advises customers: "Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you monster!".

Since announcing their policy last week, the restaurant has made headlines around the world and have been contacted by people on both sides of the debate, including some ardent defenders of the sweet topping. Explaining what had motivated them to hike up the price on pineapple pizzas, Francis Woolf, chief fruit consultant and co-owner of Lupa Pizza, told the Mirror: "It started off as bit of fun but we've found it's something that people feel really strongly about.

"Since last week we've heard from people in Australia, America, Canada, New Zealand and basically the whole English-speaking world. We love pineapple but loathe pineapple on pizza - more than anything we don't think it tastes good. But the response we've got has been very exciting and we've loved hearing from everyone.".

Asked if there's any other toppings that are strictly off-limits, he said: "We were talking to someone earlier who mentioned a banana and peanut pizza - that turns my stomach". Francis co-owns the restaurant, which opened in June last year, along with pals Felix Rehberg, head of Pina Coladas, and head chef Quin Jianoran. As you'd expect, they all have their own firm opinions on what makes a perfect pizza. Francis says he is a "big fan" of the Neapolitan, while Felix is fond of the restaurant's own Lennie's Special, which features Guanciale, Chestnut Mushroom, Parmesan and Garlic Oil. Quinn meanwhile is impartial to the classic Margarita.
