It isn’t surprising that chefs and cooks will prefer cooking some dishes over others. But one restaurant in Norwich has taken avoiding an unliked dish to the next level. Lupa Pizza has started charging customers £100 for a Hawaiian pizza – simply because they don’t think pineapple belongs on pizza.

No matter which side of the ‘pineapple on pizza’ debate you fall on, this is certainly an extreme response. Their listing for a Hawaiian pizza on Deliveroo is set at a whopping £100, accompanied by the cheeky message: ‘Yeah, for £100 you can have it. Order the champagne too! Go on you monster!’.

Lupa’s owner and head chef didn’t mince their words, telling the Norwich Evening News that they hate pineapple on pizza. Co-owner Francis Woolf said ‘I absolutely loathe pineapple on a pizza’, while head chef Quin Jianoran added: ‘I love a pina colada, but pineapple on pizza? Never. I’d rather put a bloody strawberry on one than that tropical menace.’.

The restaurant, which opened last June, says it caters to all tastes – as long as you don’t like pineapple. They offer customizable pizzas where you can choose your own toppings, as well as unique monthly specials like beef shin rendang and garlic whipped tofu – a far cry from the classic Margarita.
