This mind-boggling brain teaser could leave you confused - but if you can solve it within two minutes, then you are considered a genius. Brain teasers can help keep us focused and boost our ability to think outside of the box. Whilst there are many types of these puzzles, the mathematics ones can help improve our problem-solving skills the most.
Math puzzles can test our logical thinking and help us calculate answers more effectively under a quicker time frame. Budding mathematicians were tasked with a difficult challenge on Twitter, which left people wracking their heads for answers. The account @jitendra789789 posted a multiple-choice style question and asked what option was correct. The caption was shared alongside an image which asked social media users to solve ‘6 - 3 ÷ 3 x 2’.
To complete the question, you must use multiple techniques including subtraction, division and multiplication, to help answer the question. The answer options were listed as A: 2, B: 10, C: 4, and D: None. One user attempted to solve the brain teaser and said: “Start with division and multiplication first: 3 ÷ 3 = 1, then 1 x 2 = 2. Subtract 2 from 6 to get 4”. Another person said: "Apply BODMAS ( brackets, orders, division, multiplication, addition, subtraction ). You will get 4 as stated correctly by many." Research by Progress Lifeline revealed why brain teasers are an important part of learning.
It stated: "Working on a puzzle reinforces connections between brain cells, improves mental speed and is an effective way to improve short-term memory." It comes after previous research discovered that the "logic stress and limit stress generated during playing brain teaser games are positive stress, with a desirable effect on the players' attention".
