Paul Scholes has named eight players Manchester United must sell in a brutal list which includes Argentine centre-back Lisandro Martinez. Martinez was signed by former boss Erik ten Hag – and has arguably been one of United’s better players in recent years – but Scholes isn’t convinced.
The legendary United midfielder also wants his old side to get rid of fellow central defender Matthijs de Ligt, who only arrived at the club last summer. The third name on Scholes’ list is another summer signing, Joshua Zirkzee, who has flopped since he moved to Old Trafford from Italian side Bologna.
Three England internationals are on Scholes’ list – Marcus Rashford, Mason Mount and Luke Shaw – with the United hero keen to offload the trio. Rashford recently made somewhat of a U-turn over his future at United despite being frozen out by head coach Ruben Amorim.
The last two players on Scholes’ list are somewhat less surprising with the 50-year-old wanting to see both Casemiro and Antony depart Old Trafford. Scholes named the eight United players in a video shared on TNT Sports’ social media channels on Tuesday, in what was a game of ‘Keep or Sell’.
Meanwhile, Scholes also believes United supporters should not worry if the club decide to sell Alejandro Garnacho. Asked if United may need to sell Garnacho in order to finance a rebuild under Amorim, Scholes told TNT Sports: ‘I can see that with Garnacho, yeah.
