Princess Beatrice has paid tribute to her Greek ancestry in a heartwarming detail spotted in the photo of her newborn daughter. The King's niece, 36, gave birth to her second daughter, Athena Elizabeth Rose, no January 22, Buckingham Palace announced today.
Athena Elizabeth becomes 11th in line to the throne, pushing her aunt Princess Eugenie down to 12th place. She becomes the third child in the Mapelli Mozzi brood alongside Wolfie, eight, from Edo's first marriage to Dara Huang, and Beatrice's three-year-old daughter Sienna.
But despite giving birth to the next generation of royals, the mother-of-three made sure to pay tribute to her royal relatives from previous generations. In a nod to her Greek heritage, the photo of Athena Elizabeth shared by Buckingham Palace shows her wrapped up tightly in a knitted blanket that was designed by her distant cousin.
The blanket was made by Marie Chantal, Crown Princess of Greece and the wife of the late Duke of Edinburgh's nephew, Crown Prince Pavlos. Prince Philip, who died in 2021 at the age of 99, was the only son of Prince Andrew of Greece, who was the younger brother of King Constantine I of Greece.
