Princess Beatrice, 36, has given birth to her second child, Athena - and the new addition to the Royal Family might be in line for an unexpected royal title. Princess Beatrice is the eldest daughter of Prince Andrew, Duke of York, and Sarah Ferguson, and Athena is her second child with husband Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, 41. Athena was born a few weeks prematurely on Wednesday, 22nd January, at 12:57 pm. and weighed 4lb 5oz - with Beatrice initially expected to give birth in Spring.

However, after a health warning was given by her medical team in December, Beatrice and Edoardo scrapped their plans to travel abroad to spend the festive period with his family and instead spent Christmas with King Charles and the other royals. Athena's full name is Athena Elizabeth Rose Mapelli Mozzi, and she is now 11th in line to the throne. The couple already share one child, their eldest daughter Sienna Elizabeth, who is now three years old and 10th in the line of succession. Beatrice also has a stepson, Wolfie, from a previous relationship of Edoardo's, who is eight years old.

The King and the other royals are said to be "delighted" with the new addition to their family - but through the House of Windsor, little Athena won't be getting an official royal title, despite the fact her mother is a princess. Only the grandchildren of the monarch through a male line automatically get a title in the UK - this is why Beatrice is a Princess through her father Andrew, and why Harry's children Archie and Lilibet claimed the title of Prince and Princess respectively once Charles took the throne.

However, Beatrice isn't Athena's only parent through which she could claim a title: Edoardo is actually an Italian count, so his children can inherit a title through him and Athena could claim the title of nobile donna, the Sun reports. "Edoardo is the only male descendent taking the family into the next generation," explained Edoardo's father, Count Allessandro Mapelli Mozzi. "He is a count, his wife will be a countess automatically and any of their children will be counts or nobile donna.".

However, the Italian aristocratic title is not officially recognised in the UK - or the Republic of Italy itself. The Italian constitution states that "titles of nobility shall not be recognised" so whilst people can still use the titles as a courtesy, they don't have a legal meaning. Edoardo wrote on Instagram about the new addition to his family, "We welcomed Baby Athena into our lives last week. She is tiny and absolutely perfect. We are all (including Wolfie and Sienna) already completely besotted with her.".

Sarah Ferguson wrote on social media about her new granddaughter: "She is already so adored and I'm already blessed to be a Granny once again. So proud of Edo, Beatrice, and the rest of my little 5-a-side team". Edoardo and Beatrice joined the monarch and the other senior royals for the family's annual walkabout on the way to church in Sandringham on Christmas Day, alongside Beatrice's stepson Wolfie. Prince Andrew was not in attendance for the festive celebrations after the recent controversy surrounding his links to an alleged Chinese spy caused King Charles to reportedly ban him from joining them.
