Ruben Amorim admits he should not have branded his Manchester United team as being possibly the worst in the club’s 147-year history. Amorim made the accusation after United’s 3-1 home loss to Brighton on Sunday and he admits he was frustrated at seeing them slide back after their progress this month. The United boss claims he is still learning at 39 and says he did not mean to turn the spotlight on to his players.
“I’m a young guy and sometimes I make a mistake,” he said at his press conference on Wednesday for the Europa League tie against Rangers at Old Trafford. “That’s why I don’t talk about it after the game. “This game, I needed to talk and maybe it was a mistake and then I get more nervous and go to the press conference really nervous. Then you say things that you shouldn’t say, and that’s it.
“Sometimes you are a young guy, and then you do mistakes and you improve. I don’t promise you that I won’t do it again, but I will try to improve.”. Amorim damaged a TV in the dressing room used for tactics because he was so frustrated by the loss. He says he is well aware of his statistics that show he has lost seven of his first 15 games and knows they are not good enough.
“First of all, I want to talk about that,” he said. “I was talking more for myself than for my players, because you have to find a coach that starts a job and loses eight games, I think seven games in the first 10, so it was more for me. I was talking more about me than the players.
