Despite overseeing a vital win away to Fulham, Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim insisted his players would have no rest as they look to build on the victory. Amorim's side weren't at their best at Craven Cottage, but that didn't matter. Lisandro Martinez's deflected strike ended up being the only goal of the game, with Marco Silva's hosts failing to take their chances.
Speaking after the game, the boss revealed his squad had asked for a day off after the victory, which lifted United to 12th. As it happens, the day in question - Monday - is also Amorim's 40th birthday. Despite this, he explained the request was denied. United are back in action on Thursday, where they need a result against FCSB in Romania to ensure a top-eight finish in the Europa League, and he wants the group to be as prepared as possible - even if that means upsetting those who wanted a bit of a break.
"They asked for the day off tomorrow," Amorim admitted to MUTV with a smile. "I didn't give it, so we are training tomorrow because it's my birthday and my gift is to work with them, with the guys who didn't play. We need to work to improve all the players.
"It will be a fantastic day because we won and I'm going to do what I love in our club. Then, in the end, I am going to have dinner with my kids.". He also praised United's away fans after the game, calling them "amazing and special". He added: "Today was a good day, but let's focus on the result and also the performance - like I say, in every match we have a lot to improve.".
