Sainsbury’s Energy is offering a £250 incentive to customers who are looking to make home improvements. The supermarket has a collaboration with E.ON where customers can get up to £200 off solar panels and batteries, plus £50 toward an electric vehicle charger for your home. MCS calculations show installing solar panels could save you up to £713 a year on your electricity bills. Sainsbury’s explains on its website: “As a Sainsbury’s Energy customer you can enjoy exclusive discounts on home energy upgrades through E.ON. Get up to £200 off solar panels & batteries. Plus, save £50 on an EV charger for your home.”.

Sainsbury’s Energy customers get bonus Nectar points when they first sign up. You get up to 8,000 bonus points when you switch onto a fixed tariff. There are 2,000 Nectar points per fuel available when you join Sainsbury’s Energy on a 12-month or 18-month fixed tariff, or 4,000 points per fuel when you join Sainsbury’s Energy on a 24-month fixed tariff. If you sign up to a Sainsbury’s Track and Reward Tariff, dual fuel tariff customers can get 1,500 bonus points quarterly, while single fuel customers earn bonus points in four equal instalments of 750 points. Sainsbury’s adds: "By switching to us, you'll not only benefit from our competitive energy tariffs but also earn valuable Nectar points on your bills. These points add up to real savings on future shopping, so you can enjoy more from your essentials.

"It's a fantastic way to save money and boost your Nectar points balance, whether you're an existing Sainsbury's shopper or new to the Nectar family. With Sainsbury's Energy, you’re getting more than just a great energy tariff. You’re also boosting your Nectar points balance with every bill.”. It comes after Sainsbury's announced it was axing 3,000 roles, which will affect about 2% of its 148,000 workforce. The job cuts will come from the supermarket closing down all its 61 in-store cafes, and removing its pizza and hot food counters from stores. Sainsbury’s is also axing 20% of senior management workers over the coming months.

Simon Roberts, Sainsbury’s chief executive, said the job cuts were necessary to “continue to drive forward” the business - and warned retailers are facing a “particularly challenging cost environment“. It comes after Sainsbury’s warned that tax increases from the October Budget would hit it with an extra £140million in costs.
