WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Severance season 2. The latest episode of Severance season two, titled Who Is Alive?, saw Harmony Cobel (played by Patricia Arquette) making a hasty escape from Kier after her encounter with Helena Egan (Britt Lower) went awry. Cobel found herself stranded in her car on the side of a deserted road, surrounded by icy landscapes, with a road sign indicating she was 238 miles from a mysterious town called Salt's Neck.
In the back of her vehicle, she had her mother Charlotte Cobel's breathing tube, a poignant reminder of the now-destroyed Kier Shrine. After a moment's contemplation, Cobel made a U-turn, heading back to Kier for another confrontation with Lumon's heir, Helena. Upon her return, she demanded that Helena remove Seth Milchick (Tramell Tillman) from his position and allow her to remain in charge of the Severed floor. However, Helena refused, suggesting they present their case to the Board together.
Cobel, wary of Helena's intentions, fled once more. It appears that Cobel could now be heading towards Salt's Neck, a town whose significance will likely be explored further in the series, reports the Mirror US. Fans have begun speculating about the mysterious town, with one fan posting on X: "Salt's Neck. The first town name we've heard of outside of Kier #Severance.". As Salt's Neck is not a real-life location, it fuels the theory that Kier and this new town might be part of a larger, enclosed environment created by Lumon. Speculation has been swirling around the setting of Severance, Kier town, believed to be home to many Lumon employees.
One curious fan questioned on Reddit: "I have this suspicion that their whole town is another level of severance. Because no one left the whole town other than the senator.". A fellow Redditor responded with their own theory: "I don't think the town is severed per se but I do think there's weight to the idea that the town is part of the overall Lumon experiment. I think it's highly controlled and full of surveillance and they have the ability within the town to control specific people.".
Another chimed in during a rewatch, noting: "I just realized on a rewatch that Pips was started by or named after one of the Eagan CEOs.". A fourth fan expressed scepticism about Lumon's omnipotence: "Lumon doesn't seem to be all knowing in terms of the day to days on the severed floor in season one.". They elaborated: "Sure there were cameras, but no one was really watching enough to know what they were doing season one. So if Lumon is this incompetent on the inside, why are we supposed to believe they could be all controlling throughout the town? " Adding an enigmatic twist to the discussion, a user posted: "The surest way to tame a prisoner is to let them believe they are free.".
Furthermore, evidence of a peculiar connection was pointed out between the process of reintegration experienced by character Mark Scout (Adam Scott) and the name Salt's Neck, as Asal Reghabi (Karen Aldridge) appears to use salt crystals during the reintegration procedure. While this could merely be a coincidence or a stylistic decision by the creators, it might also hint at the peculiar happenings. Severance season 2 drops weekly on Fridays on Apple TV+.
