WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Severance season 2. The second season of Severance has finally arrived after a nearly three-year delay due to the Hollywood strikes, and fans are eagerly awaiting each episode. In line with Apple TV+'s release format, episodes are released weekly to keep viewers hooked - and this is also true for Severance. The second season premiered on Friday, January 17, 2025, with a total of 10 episodes, making it longer than the previous one.
Episodes of Severance will be released at the same time worldwide on Apple TV+, although the exact time will vary due to geographical differences. The show will be released at 12am Eastern Standard Time, which is 9pm Pacific Time and 11pm Central Time. For UK viewers, this means episodes of Severance drop at 5am on the day of release. The second season of Severance has focused on the aftermath of the series one finale.
However, there was a plot twist when it was revealed Helly (played by Britt Lower) was actually Helena Egan, the heir to Lumon Industries and the daughter of Jame Eagan (Michael Siberry). Now, fans are questioning whether it was Helena who returned to the Severed Floor in the season two premiere or if Helly was indeed back, reports the Mirror US. There are also questions about what Helena/Helly's motives are after she pledged to rectify the problems caused by the Macrodat Uprising.
Dan Erickson, the mastermind behind Severance, delved into the show's mysteries in an edition of Inside the Episode, saying: "Lumon has to figure out what information has leaked. Did Mark foud out about his wife? Did any of them reveal to anybody what they do every day? " Meanwhile, Adam Scott, the lead star, teased the upcoming season for his character: "For Outie Mark, season two is really about, 'Okay, now you know that this company has been deceiving you, what are you going to do about it? '".
Director Ben Stiller shared insights on a major character development, revealing: "For [Lower], it was really exciting to explore Helena, and I think what she did was really, really special in that there's just such a different character there.". He added, "And the way she expanded on Helly really creates such an interesting contrast.". Sam Donavan, another director on the team, praised actress Britt Lower's portrayal of dual roles: "[Lower] has really embraced that physicality between the two characters. Helly is quite aggressive, while with Helena she is in a position of power where things come to her, so there's much more of a calmness about her and she's much steadier.".
Britt Lower herself reflected on her character's complexities: "Helena is someone who has to wear a mask in front of people. Whereas Helly is just, there's no mask, there's no filter, and there's very little care for what people think.". She elaborated on the impact of playing both roles: "Helena has a very sheltered existence, so I think the experience of seeing another version of herself that is so much more free than she is, is intriguing, inspiring, provocative.".
