Sky News anchor Kay Burley interrupted regular programming with a breaking news segment that caught viewers' attention on Tuesday morning. During her breakfast show, she reported on new projections that indicate the UK's population is set to hit 72.5 million by mid-2032.

The growth, she explained, is predominantly due to net migration, anticipated to total around 4.9 million by 2023, based on the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS). With an expected five million more residents by 2032, the UK's population will surge to about 72.5 million.

Commenting on the figures, Burley remarked, "They are telling us that the UK population is projected to rise by almost five million, that's 7.3 per cent from 2022 to 2032.". Burley also took a moment to question Keir Starmer's stance on infrastructure, saying: "All that infrastructure that we're hearing about from the prime minister, we're going to need it, aren't we? Because apparently the population is projected to rise by 7.3 per cent in the next 10 years.".

She added: "Almost five million extra people here in the UK during that time. I'm sure the prime minister will have something to say about that, along with the chancellor when they make their speeches tomorrow.". The issue of immigration was highlighted further by Shadow Home Secretary Chris Philp, who expressed concern over the numbers: "Ten million arrivals over ten years is far too high. We need a binding legal cap on visas issued each year which is very, very substantially lower than this in order to get the numbers down and under control.".
