Sky TV users hit by annoying downgrade - check now to find out if you are affected

Sky has just updated one of its popular perks and, sadly, it's a bit of a downgrade. Until today, January 22, customers who signed up for a Sky Cinema package got instant access to the Paramount+ streaming service for free. That's allowed millions to tune into movies such as Mean Girls and The Godfather along with boxsets like Yellowstone, Star Trek and Tulsa King without paying the usual subscription fees.
Things are changing though, and it won't please those who hate viewing endless adverts. From now on, Sky is switching customers from Paramount+ (Standard) over to the "Basics" plan. "Sky Cinema customers are going to be moved to the Paramount + Basic (with ads) plan from 21 January. You might notice this change on your account from 16 February," Sky confirmed in an update.
Although it's still free to watch, Basics does include paid-for messages between content, so there's no more uninterrupted viewing. It's similar to Disney+ and Netflix who both introduced cheaper options for those not bothered by advertising during their binges.
Explaining more about the update, Sky said: "Paramount+ Basic (with ads) is available to Sky TV customers with Sky Cinema at no extra cost. "If you're already a Paramount+ Customer paying with Sky Marketplace, then adding Sky Cinema onto your TV package, you'll automatically be moved to the Paramount+ Basic (with ads).
"We’ll switch this over for you at the end of your current billing period (we can't do it sooner and can't refund you for any time left on your Paramount+ Standard subscription), so you don’t continue paying monthly with Sky Marketplace. You don’t have to do anything, and your login details will stay the same.".
