Actor Tom Welling looked far from his Smallville character in a police mugshot. The 47-year-old star, best known for his portrayal of a young Superman on the TV series, was arrested in fast food restuarant Arby's carpark in Yreka, California, shortly after midnight Monday, according to reports. The local police department allegedly picked up Tom because he allegedly was driving under the influence. His blood alcohol level was reportedly at or above 0.08% at the time of his arrest.
Fans of his were quick to comment on his unrecognisable appearance after his mugshot as released by the Siskiyo County Sheriff's Office. "That's Tom Welling? Damn he aged a lot," said one user online. Another responded: "Wow, he did age...". The New York Post obtained Welling's booking sheet. On it, he was described as having a "clear" complexion with stubble and short hair and weighing 240 pounds, which is around 17 stone 14lbs. It also noted his speech was "clear," while listing his job role as "actor— self employed". The publication states he was cited and released without bail shortly after 7am local time on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, before his arrest, Tom had taken to social media to wish his wife Jessica Rose Lee a happy birthday. Taking to Instagram, he shared a gushing tribute to the equestrian. Alongside a number of sweet images of the pair, he wrote: "Happy Birthday to our Angel who makes our dreams come true and inspires us even more! We love you to the moon and back! @jessicarosewelling".
