Warning - this article contains major spoilers for Squid Game season 2. The much-anticipated second season of Squid Game has finally landed on Netflix this Boxing Day, boasting seven fresh episodes. This latest instalment of the wildly successful South Korean drama sees Seong Gi-hun (portrayed by Lee Jung-jae) devising a plot to dismantle the sinister games that previously netted him 45.6 billion won following a gruelling ordeal three years prior.

Assisted by police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), Gi-hun infiltrates the games with the intention of bringing it down but soon finds himself back in the competition when his plan to guide the police to the island is thwarted. Throughout the games, he forms alliances with his old friend Jung-bae (Lee Seo-hwan) and Oh Young-il, who unbeknownst to him is actually the enigmatic Front Man Hwang In-ho (Lee Byung-hun) from the previous tournament.

In this season, after each round, the players are given the chance to vote on whether to proceed with the games, creating a rift between the 'Xs', those who wish to quit, and 'Os', participants who want to continue in hopes of splitting the grand prize, reports the Express.

In the season's final episode, Friend or Foe, Gi-hun and several other Xs stage a revolt against the guards, ambushing them after a brawl erupts the night following the third game and seizing their weapons. Despite Gi-hun and Jung-bae's efforts to infiltrate the upper levels, their rebellion meets a disastrous end when Dae-ho (Kang Ha-neul), allegedly an ex-Marine, is discovered by Hyun-ju (Park Sung-hoon) hiding in the sleeping quarters instead of fetching extra ammunition.
