Liverpool proved to be far, far too good for Ipswich as the Reds swatted aside their visitors at Anfield to assert their hold on the title race. The hosts struck three times in the first half as the swarmed all over their relegation threatened visitors, who lost winger Wes Burns to a serious looking injury.
Dominik Szoboszlai opened the scoring from range with a crisp left footed effort, before Mo Salah fired high into the net for the second. Cody Gakpo struck either side of half-time - the first after a Szoboszlai shot was saved by Christian Walton and the second a header from Trent Alexander-Arnold's cross - to make it 4-0.
A battered Ipswich did little to threaten the Liverpool goal for much of the game, with Omari Hutchinson's effort from distance the first shot they managed to register after an hour as Alisson remained a spectator virtually throughout. Alexander-Arnold came close from distance in the second half and then hit the post, before Ipswich got a consolation through Jacob Greaves' header from Julio Enciso's corner. Here are the game's main talking points.
The first thing that struck you about the Liverpool team named by Arne Slot was just how predictable it was. And not for the first time this season. Supporters had travelled to Anfield debating which changes the Reds manager may like to make to his Premier League team. Perhaps a start for Darwin Nunez after his two-goal cameo off the bench at Brentford, or one for Harvey Elliott after he found the net in the win over Lille? Nope, not a bit of it.
