The 1% Club star Lee Mack didn’t quite know what to say when he discovered the "heartbreaking" explanation behind why a contestant was on the show. The hit ITV game show returned for another outing this evening, Saturday, January 25, with host Lee Mack back to lead the way with 100 contestants putting their common sense to the test.
At the start of the episode, Lee asked those taking part if they felt confident in their abilities, with some jokingly cheering that they didn’t. He then turned his attention to contestant, Alice, who didn’t seem to be very talkative, providing the presenter with one word answers.
"Well I must say, I’ve not even spoken to you properly yet and I already think 'you’re not full of confidence'", he joked. She then surprisingly shared: "I don’t actually know what I’m doing here, I thought this was a scam, my boyfriend was going to propose.".
A quiet moment of confusion could be felt before the surrounding contestants laughed, with a woman empathetically covering her face. Lee remarked: "That is heartbreaking", before asking: "Did he put you forward?" Alice continued: "No, so I applied myself but I didn’t ever think I was going to make the show. And then when I got the email, I thought that was all part of the scam and he planned it really well.".
"Hang on, so you set off this morning still thinking that you might be proposed to?", Lee asked Alice as she confirmed this was the case. He continued to joke: "And then when you saw the studios, did you still think 'he’s going to be in there!' You didn’t think it was going to be live on television did you?".
