Residents of a small British town claim it's become a "no-go area" after dark due to escalating crime. Locals report being terrorised by teens who intimidate the elderly, throw items at shoppers and traders during the weekend market, and even carry knives.

In response to an incident where a teen reportedly chased another with a knife, the town council in Blackwood, Caerphilly county, called a meeting this week to address the issues. However, even that was disrupted by yobs who entered the town council building and refused to leave, causing chaos. The police were called over fears of someone getting seriously injured during the confrontation.

Although the police arrived quickly enough for the perpetrators to disperse, one individual decided to grab a roll of food caddy bags and open them across the town's market square and the bus station. Others reportedly kicked commercial bins over, leaving rubbish strewn across the town's streets.

Many people spoken to by Wales Online were too scared to go on the record, worried about the consequences. A shopkeeper who asked his name be kept out of it put it bluntly: "I value my windows too much". It's understandable given the window of a well-known shop was recently smashed by a brick.

Gwent Police have announced a fresh joint operation in Blackwood town centre, confirming several arrests linked to public order offences over the past few days. Deputy Mayor George Etheridge didn't mince words about the situation: "Blackwood has become worse than the Bronx with anti-social behaviour. It is completely out of control.
