The unexpected item Amazon shoppers can’t stop ordering for same-day delivery revealed

When you’re having one of those days and just can’t motivate yourself to leave the house, online retailers like Amazon really come in handy. With the swipe of your finger you can nab that item you forgot to pick up from the shops and have it delivered straight to your door the same day. Easy peasy. In the UK, we’re definitely guilty of doing this more often than we’d care to admit – in 2024 alone, Amazon delivered more than one billion items on the same or next day to its Prime members here.

And the retailer has revealed exactly what shoppers in the UK were desperate to get their hands on in urgent same-day deliveries. Obviously there were the essentials, like pantry items, pet food, and hair and beauty products, but there were also a few unexpected products people simply couldn’t wait for. In London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham, Swansea and Cardiff, the most popular items ordered for same-day delivery included HP ink cartridges, WaterWipes baby wipes and Cadbury Creme Eggs.

While Creme Eggs are a bit like Marmite, in that chocolate lovers tend to either love them or hate them, it seems Amazon Prime members can’t get enough. And in reviews left for Creme Eggs on Amazon show it’s mostly because shoppers miss them when they disappear from supermarket shelves after Easter. ‘No idea why shops stop selling Creme Eggs after Easter! I’ll eat them any time,’ said Chloe. And Peter H, who purchased a 48 pack, felt similarly, saying: ‘Why can’t it be Easter all year. This is the best value option for lots of Cadbury Creme Eggs – the best!’.

For those in Swansea, it was cans of Pepsi Max they couldn’t wait to get their hands on, while in Glasgow one of the most-wanted products was the COLOR WOW Dream Coat Supernatural Spray. Other items people wanted to get their hands on as soon as possible included the viral Snail Mucin, INSTAX mini instant film, Echo Dot, and Ring Chime. For those who weren’t aware, same-day delivery is currently available on Amazon for millions of products in over 80 towns and cities across the UK.

The fastest order delivered in the UK in the last three months was to a customer in Manchester, who ordered a copy of the children’s book ‘The Story Orchestra: Carnival of the Animals’. The book was ordered at 12pm and had been delivered by 1:26pm. The top shopped categories for same-day delivery are pharmacy, home, and beauty, and in 2024 shoppers saved on average around £200 for using the Prime perk to get their items sharpish.
