A furious Tyson Fury insisted Oleksandr Usyk had been handed an early Christmas gift as he raged at his defeat in their heavyweight title rematch. An angry Fury had stormed out of the ring before taking part in his post-fight interview having learned how his defeat to the Ukrainian champion had been scored. Another classic encounter between the well-matched rivals ended with Usyk retaining his WBC, WBA and WBO belts by finishing 116-112 ahead on all three judges’ scorecards. Fury exited the ring and complained backstage: "Honestly, I thought I won by three rounds".
Astonishingly, whether you think Fury won, Usyk won or it was a tight affair that could've gone either way all three judges battered Fury for his showing in the second half of the fight. Judge 'Jerry' Martinez gave Fury three of the first five rounds, but then gave the next six in succession to Usyk, before giving the Gypsky King the last. Patrick Morley gave Fury four of the first five rounds, before scoring the remaining seven all in favour of the champion. And the third judge, Ignacio Robles, handed Fury just one of the last seven rounds, having had him up a round after five.
