UK snow warnings: Met Office says 'dangerous' 10cm flurry coming in fresh update

The Met Office has issued fresh weather warnings as "dangerous" snow is forecast to fall across more areas this week, with as much as 10cm on the cards for some. Millions of people have been forced to battle flurries this morning as the country returns to work after the New Year break. Weather warnings remain in place in several parts of the UK, including five for snow and ice in the north of England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
The weather warnings are set to continue Tuesday as new snow and ice warnings have been issued - starting today at 3pm - in Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and south-western England. Wednesday also promises to be problematic for those living in the south where as much as 10cm could fall. People have been told power cuts may happen and drivers should prepare for breakdowns.

The warning impacting Wales and England, which comes into effect today ay 5pm and lasts until 10am tomorrow, states: "Icy stretches are expected to develop this evening, due to ongoing wet surfaces following earlier rain and, in places, snowmelt. Frequent sleet or snow showers are also expected to affect Wales and parts of northwest England this evening, moving into southwest England, the Midlands and parts of southern England in the early hours of Tuesday.
"In addition to the ice, these are likely to produce snow accumulations of a few cm above 200 metres, with a small chance of greater than 5cm above 200 metres in Wales. The heaviest snow showers may also produce temporary accumulations of 0-2 cm at low levels.".
