It won’t come as a surprise to many that the Seychelles, Japan, Algeria and San Diego all feature on a list of must-visit places for 2025. But there is one UK ‘destination’ (if you can even call it that) included in the guide which will definitely have more than a few eyebrows raising. That’s because the travel experts over at Bloomberg have named London’s Elizabeth Line as one of the 25 best places in the world to visit this year.
Yes, you read that correctly. They are recommending you visit a railway line. But why?. Well, according to the publication many of London’s ‘most exciting restaurant and hotel openings’ have recently happened in close proximity to the Lizzie Line. Examples include the Chancery Rosewood in Mayfair (near the Bond Street station), as well as Carbone and Arlington (which was previously Le Caprice, a favourite haunt of Princess Diana).
From the line’s Liverpool Street stop, you will soon be able to head to Gordon Ramsay’s new project at 22 Bishopsgate, and there’s also Canary Wharf which is becoming a top food and drink destination to the east of line. Here you’ll find spots such as Hovarda, Roe, and Marceline. The experts recommend heading to London to take a ride on the Elizabeth Line towards the Christmas holiday season as that’s when the city is most ‘magical’, and they advise avoiding it during the grey, grizzly months of February and March. (Newsflash: it’s pretty much always grey here).
While you might have expected more obvious landmarks or attractions, such as the Shard, Tower Bridge, or Buckingham Palace, to have made the cut, the inclusion of the Elizabeth Line as a must-visit in London won’t surprise some. And that’s because the £20,000,000,000 line, which runs between Heathrow Airport terminals and Reading through Paddington to Abbey Wood and Shenfield, has quickly become a firm-favourite for many Londoners, with more than 500,000,000 passengers recorded travelling on it since it first opened in May 2022.
On its busiest days, the Elizabeth line sees more than 800,000 journeys. To get the latest news from the capital visit Metro's London news hub. And the love for it continues on social media, where the line has been praised as ‘amazing’, ‘fast’, and ‘heaven’. Taking to Reddit, u/Dont_Knowtrain said: ‘Can we just talk about how amazing this line is, the trains are amazing, the air conditioning, and there’s WiFi, complete opposite of the Central Line.’.

While u/Roper1537 admitted: ‘I’ll happily walk extra and add more time to my journey just to use the Liz.’. And u/Mjukplister commented: ‘As someone who lives on it it’s a f***ing game-changer! Soho in 20, east London in 30. Love love LOVE. That said the other day it wasn’t working and had to sweat like a b***h on the central and jubilee line instead. It’s the best tube line bar none.’.
The Lizzie Line even has its own TripAdvisor page, however its rating on there isn’t quite as favourable as on other platforms, garnering an overall rating of 2 out of 5 stars, with 46 terrible reviews and only 14 excellent ones. In the posts, people complained about ‘daily delays’, with Sofia M posting: ‘Delays almost daily, there’s always an excuse, sick passengers, weather, signalling problems. Terribly coordinated and highly unreliable. I’d rather walk to the next station. So frustrating.’.
And Vita A agreed, adding: ‘This is terrible – the Elizabeth line now has a delay or broken train almost every day for the past two weeks. I commute from Romford to Bond Street and it’s getting worse on a daily basis. So much money has been spent and only after three years of service it’s crumbling away! Disgraceful and wasteful.’. Despite this, the line managed to rack up the highest customer satisfaction on the entire network, according to research carried out by TfL together with Arup and the Department for Transport.
