An American woman has been extradited to the UK where she faces charges over a botched conspiracy to murder a man in Birmingham. Aimee Betro was extradited from Armenia in relation to the assassination plot gone wrong. A court heard at the time how Mohammed Aslam, 58, and Mohammed Nabil Nazir, 30, from Derby, arranged for a woman dressed in a hijab to carry out the hit. The target was threatened with a gun on a street in Birmingham from a range of six to seven feet, but he was luckily able to escape when the pistol failed to fire.

Authorities confirmed on Thursday that a US national was flown into Gatwick Airport by specialist National Extradition Unit officers from the National Crime Agency to face a conspiracy to murder charge. Upon landing, she was taken to the West Midlands where she was also charged with possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, police said.

Betro, 45, who was arrested in Armenia last summer, is also being charged in relation to the alleged importation of ammunition into the UK, as part of a Derbyshire Constabulary investigation. She is due to appear at Birmingham magistrates court on Friday over the charges.

Ben Samples, deputy chief crown prosecutor for the CPS in West Midlands, said: “The CPS has authorised West Midlands Police to charge Aimee Betro with conspiracy to murder a Birmingham resident. Aimee Betro from Wisconsin in the USA will be charged for her alleged part in a conspiracy to murder the owner of a Birmingham clothing store and members of his family on September 8 2019.
