INCREDIBLE footage shows China's robust bionic dog dubbed "Black Panther" running faster than a human athlete. Even racing legend Usain Bolt can beat the four-legged robot that can sprint 100 metres in under 10 seconds. The clip shows the robot running against an athlete.

Within moments, the bionic dog can be seen leaving the man behind before reaching the finish line. Chinese media reports that its incredible speed has broken previous world records for four-legged robots. Black Panther has been designed to move and run like a cheetah - and has an extensive artificial intelligence system fitted inside that helps it to improve after every run.

The robot even comes with cheetah-inspired “running shoes” that boost grip and allow it to run even quicker. And with the help of machine learning, the robot adapts its gait to various terrains in a bid to give the best performance. Black Panther is now one of the fastest and most efficient quadruped robots.

Wang Hongtao, chief of the institute and a professor at Zhejiang University, told Xinhua: "Through the integration of software and components, we created a prototype within a mere three months,” said.". The previous fastest bionic dog was called HOUND which was created by the Dynamic Robot Control and Design Laboratory in South Korea.

It could run the 100-metre distance in 19.87 seconds. It comes after another Chinese robot was filmed speeding through rough terrain while performing shocking stunts. Deep Robotics, a Chinese tech company specialising in humanoid robots, said the quadruped would be "unstoppable" even in "extreme weather".
