Plymouth Argyle are facing mounting calls to sack Wayne Rooney after their latest mauling at the hands of Coventry City. The Pilgrims are rooted to the bottom of the Championship and they enjoyed no festive cheer with Lampard's outfit enjoying a free-scoring afternoon at home. Coventry eventually secured a 4-0 win as pressure further ramped up on Rooney, who only took charge in the summer.

Plymouth have not won since the opening week of November but Rooney has been defiant and maintained he was making plans for January. This defeat was met throughout with chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning". Following their latest hammering though fans are beginning to turn on the Manchester United legend, who is still looking to prove his credentials in the dugout after a trophy-laden playing career.

One fan said: "To give the club a chance to stay up sack Rooney." Another added: "Rooney isn't a coach. Time for him to do the decent thing and resign, but he won't and you guys in the club won't sack him because of stubbornness. We're heading to League One.".

The sentiment was echoed with another supporter claiming: "If you don’t sack Rooney immediately you might as well prepare for life in League One." Another fan was keen to approve Rooney's replacement, saying: "Sack Rooney appoint Schuey and we stay up, it’s so simple.".
