Meanwhile, yellow weather warnings for snow and rain have been issued for Scotland, starting at midnight on Monday and finishing at 11.59pm on Tuesday. A Met Office spokesperson said: ‘Heavy rain will become persistent and widespread during Monday and Tuesday.

‘North and east of (and including) Perthshire, precipitation is likely to fall as snow, especially over high ground, with 10-20cm accumulating above 150-200 meters, with several cm accumulating at lower elevations away from windward coasts. ‘Strong winds may exacerbate impacts, particularly across the areas of Scotland affected by snow.

‘Blizzard conditions are possible, especially over high ground and across much of Sutherland and Caithness. Powerline icing is possible where blizzard conditions occur.’. In relation to the yellow wind warning, the Met Office confirmed: ‘Westerly winds will be strong and gust at times. Gusts of 50-60mph are possible over high ground.’.

As a result of the wind, there is a risk that some bus and train services will be affected, which means some journeys may take longer. There will also be some delays to road and rail transport as well as some short term loss of power and other services is possible.
