Graham Potter has reportedly been promised he will be given new signings this month should he take charge of West Ham. The former Chelsea boss has been strongly linked with the Hammers job amid huge uncertainty over the future of Julen Lopetegui, who led the team to a 4-1 loss at Manchester City on Saturday.
The club are now holding talks with Potter over replacing Lopetegui amid fears the team could be dragged into a relegation fight. They are currently seven points off the bottom three. Potter has turned down a number of teams since being axed by the Blues in April 2023 but the West Ham role is looking more likely should West Ham swing the axe of Lopetegui.
The 49-year-old has reportedly been assured that if he joins, he will be backed with new recruits to ensure the Hammers have a strong end to the season, as reported by The Times. West Ham want to bring in an "energetic midfielder" and a new forward - after losing Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio to injury - the report adds. Loan deals likely after the club spent a large part of their budget by bringing in ten players last summer, costing around £150m.
It comes after a picture began circulating of Potter appearing to have a meeting with West Ham chief Tim Steidten, though it is unclear when the photo was taken. It is reported Potter has been offered an unfamiliar deal until the end of the season - which appears to indicate the club's fears of being involved in a survival battle.
