The Premier League clash is the only New Year’s Day fixture, with a one-day stop gap between the match and Manchester United's home game against Newcastle United on Monday Night Football earlier this week. The reason is that the Premier League this season has opted not to schedule any games on December 28 and 31, or on January 2 and 3, as reported by Yahoo Sports.
Ahead of the start of the campaign, the league also made a commitment to ensure that no club would play two games within 60 hours between December 21 and January 5.
