Dwayne Myers made a welcome return to Death In Paradise - with fans hoping to see him back permanently. The much-loved character, played by Danny John Jules, made a return to the BBC detective drama in the last series, with fans thrilled to see him back. When new DI Mervin Wilson arrived in the Christmas special, Dwayne was also back and had planned to spend his festive season with his father Nelson, who had also made a return to the island.
At the end of the Christmas special, Nelson suggested that they head out to sea the following day as they had planned. Dwayne told him: "Just to let you know that we are going to be having quite a few more days like that ahead of us in the future. "I've already told the Commissioner. I've officially told him that I'm going to be handing my badge in. I've just realised that there are far more important things that I need to be doing in my life right now.".
With Dwayne having decided to leave the police team, he is not expected to make an appearance in the new series of the BBC show, which will see DI Mervin Wilson grapple with his new temporary role - but will he stay permanently?. Speaking about being back on the show, Danny - who plays Dwayne - said: "It's pretty much like walking out your front door for me. I first went there fourteen years ago, and I filmed seven series. After seven years, it was pretty much like being at home.
"I used to annoy everyone because I could speak the local language. The mayor went crazy because when she first spoke to me, I was speaking in English, and so she couldn't understand how I was born in England but could speak Creole. She nearly fell over!". In the Christmas special, Dwayne is forced to spend the festive season away from his dad after someone goes into witness protection. Of the storylines, he said: "Dwayne is a bit of a changed man and he's all about family these days. Whereas before he was very self-centred, chasing women three times an episode and so on. And then, he got his heart broken by the girl that tamed him. Everybody goes back home to Mummy and Daddy after that, don't they? He's Dwayne. He's human. Let's just say that the plans that he and Nelson had for this Christmas, don’t exactly go to plan.".
