Sonic the Hedgehog is returning to cinemas for his third outing but fans still have time to catch up on the blue blur's previous outings with one title streaming for free. Sega's beloved mascot is bringing even more characters from the hit video game franchise with him for the latest sequel. Shadow the Hedgehog is set to make his live-action debut, providing Sonic with his latest formidable opponent. The character will be voiced by Keanu Reeves, star of The Matrix and John Wick movies. The third instalment will be released in cinemas December 21.
Several big names are also returning whether in person or lending their voices once again. Comedian Ben Schwartz voices Sonic, Idris Elba plays Knuckles and Colleen O'Shaughnessey returns as Tails. Meanwhile Jim Carrey will also make a comeback as both Doctor Eggman and the villain's grandfather and creator of Shadow the Hedgehog. James Marsden will play the role of Tom once more.
The synopsis for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 states: "Sonic, Knuckles and Tails reunite to battle Shadow, a mysterious new enemy with powers unlike anything they've faced before. With their abilities outmatched in every way, they seek out an unlikely alliance to stop Shadow and protect the planet.".
However, if you need to catch up with how this cast of characters originally met up and what has happened so far, fear not. The original film is available to stream for free and there is also a way to watch the follow up online too. Sonic the Hedgehog is available to stream for free on Channel 4. It is also available for those who subscribe to Paramount+, whether via Amazon Prime Video as an add-on or the streamer's own app. Strangely it's not as simple to watch the first sequel.
