In the chilly winter months, waking up to find condensation on your windows can be a real bother. With temperatures plummeting, keeping moisture off the inside of your windows can be tricky, but there are affordable and effective ways to combat this common household annoyance.
Many people often scratch their heads over what causes condensation or how to banish it for good. Condensation springs up when warm air indoors meets a cold surface – a worrisome issue since if ignored, it can quickly escalate into mould, risking your health.
But fear not, as one TikTok user has come to the rescue with a hack to dry out those damp windowpanes using just a couple of everyday items. The user, @fenrahalesari, posted a video sharing a clever trick her mum passed down to absorb the dampness - with nothing more than some cooking salt and cat litter.
In her ingenious tip, Fenrah showcased how by simply filling a plastic container with cooking salt, you can soak up the excess moisture. In a similar vein, stuffing old socks or tights with cat litter and placing them around your abode can act as a makeshift dehumidifier.
Fenrah, who bagged the Miss Alternative Model of the Year title in 2021, didn't leave us hanging; she uploaded a follow-up clip showcasing the results. Revealing a container brimming with salt after a month or so, Fenrah says: "This is what the salt tends to look like. You can see there is some liquid there.".
