Three-fifths (60%) of people are feeling positive overall about their financial outlook for 2025—a leap from just over half (52%) who felt the same about 2024, reseatch suggests. Yet, not all demographics share this confidence, with only 54% of women and 47% of those aged 50 to 59 feeling optimistic about their finances. In contrast, around two-thirds (65%) of men are upbeat about their future monetary situation.

When it comes to financial goals, 'enjoying life' tops the list of priorities, alongside building up emergency savings and affording basic living costs. Unexpected expenses was selected as the top financial concern. The findings also highlight a geographic variation in financial positivity. In Wales, nearly one in five (19%) report feeling "extremely positive" about 2025, closely followed by 17% in London.

However, in Scotland and Northern Ireland, this figure drops to roughly 10%. Similarly, an average of 10% across the study express a high level of positivity, whereas the South West presents a more cautious stance, with only 5% feeling extremely positive about their future finances.

Just over a third (35%) of people are feeling uneasy about their financial prospects for 2025, whilst 60% seem upbeat, marking a positive shift from the previous year’s sentiment. Steven Cameron, pensions director at Aegon, commented: "As we enter 2025, it’s encouraging that positivity on personal finances has jumped, with 60% of individuals feeling positive overall about their finances, up from 52% who felt this way going into 2024.
