Under fire Wynne Evans spent his birthday alone as his Strictly Come Dancing co-stars celebrated without him. The opera singer has since been axed from the Strictly Live tour after ignoring repeated warnings from BBC bosses. It comes after a video emerged of him making a vile sexual remark at his co-star while at the launch of the tour in Birmingham. Evans had apologised for the comment, yet has since been axed.
Evans made an inappropriate sexual comment to Janette Manrara, who acts as host on the tour, when she posed for a photo with the cast. He sang out: "Go Compare," before adding: "Not too close to Jamie [Borthwick]." He then used the hugely demeaning term "spit roast" in reference to a lewd sexual act.
On Monday night, Evans marked his 53rd birthday and was due to head out with his co-stars. However, they partied without him as both Tasha Ghouri and Amy Dowden shared photos from the night out at Gaucho in Liverpool. Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood was seen at the fancy dinner as well as Janette's husband Aljaz Skorjanec.
"The gang were keen to do something for Wynne's birthday because he's had a hard time," a source told the Sun. "They organised a cake for him and everything, but he didn't show up. Everyone had a great time anyway but it was really sad he didn't join them, but now they know he has been axed, it all makes sense.".
In a statement, Evans told the Mirror: "My language was inappropriate and unacceptable, for which I sincerely apologise." He was seen with the tour cast as they turned up to Liverpool after having to pull out of the Glasgow shows due to an injury. However, it has been reported he will be out of the tour with 12 dates still left to perform.
