Conor McGregor is expected to make a comeback in 2025, although it might not be with UFC. The 36-year-old was scheduled to return to the Octagon for a headliner against Michael Chandler in June this year, but he withdrew weeks before the bout due to a broken pinky toe. The ex-featherweight and lightweight champion hasn't stepped into the ring since his 2021 defeat to Dustin Poirier, where he sustained a gruesome leg injury.
Recently, McGregor hinted at a lucrative boxing match with WWE star, content creator and entrepreneur Logan Paul. However, the Ambani family, who are reportedly backing the event, are said to prefer Logan's younger brother, Jake Paul, as McGregor's opponent.
The Ambanis are India's richest family, led by Mukesh Ambani, who ranks as the ninth wealthiest individual globally according to Forbes. MMA journalist Ariel Helwani reports that his estimated net worth is around $120 billion - thanks to founding Reliance Infocomm Limited in 1999.
He was also elected as a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 2016, has served as a Director of Bank of America, owns the Mumbai Indians football team, and is the founder of the Indian Super League. Helwani also suggests that Mukesh's 29-year-old son, Anant Ambani - who reportedly has his own net worth of $40bn - was more interested in securing Jake Paul's participation for the match rather than his older brother's.
He explained: "Jake Paul-Mike Tyson happens around a month ago, the son [of Ambani] says, 'I want something like this. I want to do something like this. I want something big. They're doing it in Saudi Arabia, they're doing it all over the place. I want something in India'. My understanding was the first choice is 'We want Jake Paul. We want to be in the Jake Paul business.
