Gearbox has announced the release date for the highly anticipated Borderlands 4 video game. The iconic space Western sci-fi looter shooter video game promises new weapons, more capabilities, and a new planet. A couple of trailers have shown off the latest addition to the franchise and what gamers can expect. There is also a full gameplay reveal scheduled for spring, which will give fans a more in-depth look at real gaming footage.

It promises a "special Borderlands 4 deep dive State of Play," according to Gearbox. Randy Varnell, the chief creative officer for Gearbox Entertainment, said: "Borderlands 4 is our most ambitious game to date, giving you more looting and shooting mayhem than ever before.". Borderlands 4 will be released on September 23, 2025. It will be available via PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series X|S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.

All of these platforms allow users to wishlist the game to be notified of pre-orders that will be available at a later date. Gamers will be able to fight solo or go multiplayer with up to four others. Varnell detailed new aspects of the 'ambitious' game, including the wide range of new capabilities available to users. "Move across the Borderlands like never before—double jumping, gliding, dodging, fixed-point grappling, and more—dealing death from every direction," he said.

"Our team has been kicking so much a**, and we cannot wait to share it with you!". The new action role-playing looter shooter video game will introduce gamers to a new planet, new arsenal of weapons and more abilities for their Vault Hunter. Gamers will crash into the planet Kairos as one of four new Vault Hunters introduced to the franchise. Kairos is ruled by a new ruthless enemy who will cause trouble for the glory-seeking Vault Hunters.

Players will have to escape from the dictator called Timekeeper as a "world-altering catastrophe threatens his perfect order, unleashing mayhem across the planet," Gearbox has revealed. Borderlands 4 will introduce new characters and billions of new weapons as gamers spark a resistance force on the new planet. The game description tells fans: "Become an unstoppable force on the battlefield, blasting through enemies with your arsenal of outrageous weaponry.

"Control the flow of each encounter with devastating Action Skills that unleash your Vault Hunter's unique abilities. "Flex your skill expression during combat using a wide range of new movement abilities, like gliding, dodging, fixed-point grappling, and more, to deftly deal death from every direction.". Two trailers were released by Gearbox, giving a glimpse into the new world—one during The Game Awards in December 2024 and another in February 2025.

While there are new characters, there will be familiar faces. The creators have said the game features "an eclectic cast of unforgettable characters new and old.". Back in September, narrative director Sam Winkler said: "We want to make sure the player and the Vault Hunters are the central characters of our story. "We want to make sure the world is reactive, that the world is grounded. "That while we keep our humor that brings a lot of people coming back to our franchise, we want to make sure that it's situational, that it emerges naturally.".
