But now, EA Sports has confirmed the return of Maradona in EA FC 25, an addition that the Ultimate Team community has been asking about for years.
Along with Brazilian legend Pele, Maradona was one of the headliner Icons in Ultimate Team for years, with the Argentine's Prime Icon item 97 rated between its introduction in FIFA 18 and its exit from the game following FIFA 22. Argentine legend Maradona was removed from FIFA 22 following a third-party legal dispute in March 2022, which eventually meant he was not included in FIFA 23 or any following titles.
When the Argentine was removed from the FIFA 22 game, EA stated, "We share our fans’ disappointment and hope to bring one of football’s greatest icons back in the game at some point in the future." Well, that time has come, with EA confirming Maradona will be added to EA FC 25, while also confirming his return date. EA has confirmed that Diego Maradona will be returning to Ultimate Team in EA FC 25, with the item's release date being Friday, February 14. The release date is the only bit of information that has been revealed by EA, along with an image of the late footballer wearing his infamous Argentina number 10 shirt.
Argentinian news website Infobae, via Eurogamer, reported in 2021 that a judge recognised a trademark rights claim on Maradona by Sattvica, the company of lawyer Matias Morla. The article claimed that EA made a deal with Maradona's former manager Stefano Ceci who, reportedly, could not prove he had legal powers to sign these documents, which led to Maradona being removed from FIFA. But thankfully, it seems EA has managed to sort out any issues, allowing one of the game's greats to make his long-awaited return. Leaks have revealed that the next promo in EA FC 25 Ultimate Team will be called Grassroots Greats. @FutSheriff revealed earlier this month that Maradona would be included in the promo, which aligns with EA's official release date for the Icon.
