Elon Musk's row with the UK has deepened this week, with Brits left fuming over a yet another controversial proposal from Donald Trump's billionaire "First Buddy". Musk, 53, took to X in an early morning post on Sunday to suggest the country give a new name to "the water that separates England and France". The "water" - otherwise known as the English Channel - he suggested, should be known by an American name, instead of the one it has held for longer than the US has existed.
The billionaire appeared to suggest the English Channel should become the "George Washington Channel" by sharing a picture of the passage labelling it as such. The suggestion, as have many of his previous trolling attempts, did not go down well with British X users, many of whom roasted the billionaire in his own comments section.
One user replying below the picture said: "About time you grow up." Another Brit fought back by posting their own picture labelling the US - which won its freedom from British rule in 1776 - "British Overseas Territory of America". And a third responded: "Everyone outside of the USA won't be changing any maps. So you guys can play Nazi Germany all you want.
"Have fun. I guess we get to watch children play board games for 4 years. How fun. A third user responded with a straight forward: "You're a joke." Some Brits and Europeans weren't as opposed to the suggestion, but still took issue with the figure and its reference to the US, rather than Europe.
One account suggested: "I don’t mind but at least use a general who didn’t lose more battles than he won." One French user added: "We love George Washington, he’s an honorary citizen of France. But no thank you, we name European sea with European name." Despite officially taking the helm of his cost-cutting US government department last week and running six companies in the country, including Twitter successor X, the richest man in the world has dedicated significant time to "trolling" the UK.
