The content of King Charles Christmas broadcast for 2024 is not yet known but he will no doubt cover topics such as the environment and the importance of family, perhaps touching on his and the Princess of Wales' personal health struggles with cancer.
For some, Christmas Day isn’t complete without sitting down to watch the royal speech. This year King Charles III will make his third ever address to the nation and Commonwealth as monarch since the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II. Although the speech is pre-recorded the content is not released beforehand but it always covers important subjects the world has faced from the past year as well as those close to his heart. Buckingham Palace has previously said: "Each broadcast carefully reflects current issues and concerns, and shares The Monarch's reflections on what Christmas means to them and their listeners. Over the years, the Christmas Broadcast has acted as a chronicle of global, national and personal events which have affected the [monarch] and [their] audience.".
Charles’ message will air on Christmas Day, December 25 at 3pm on BBC1, BBC2 and BBC News, as well as iPlayer. It will last for nine minutes. The King’s Speech will also air on ITV1 at the same time. In 2023 Charles delivered his second broadcast and emphasised the importance of compassion within the community. He said: "Over this past year my heart has been warmed by countless examples of the imaginative ways in which people are caring for one another - going the extra mile to help those around them simply because they know it is the right thing to do: at work and at home; within and across communities.".
