King Charles will give his highly anticipated King’s Speech on Christmas Day – here’s everything you need to know. The annual speech will be His Majesty’s third time addressing the nation on Christmas Day since he took to the throne in 2022. But there will be a change this year, as Charles has recorded his speech outside a royal residence for the first time in more than a decade.

The King recorded his speech on December 11 at the Fitzrovia Chapel, a former chapel of the Middlesex Hospital now closed and demolished. The last time the Christmas Day speech was filmed outside of a royal residence was when Queen Elizabeth journeyed to the Southwark Cathedral in 2006.

King Charles will address the nation on Christmas Day at 3pm, as is the annual tradition. The speech is expected to last around 10 minutes. The annual pre-recorded speech will air on BBC, ITV and Sky News from 3pm on Christmas Day. For those trying to listen in on the radio, you should head to BBC Radio 4. Replays of the speech are also anticipated throughout the day.

The message delivered by the King this year is expected to focus on the efforts of healthcare workers following his cancer diagnosis and hail Britain’s sense of community in the wake of the Southport stabbings. As is the usual, the King is set to base his speech on some of the major events of the last 12 months, including the Princess of Wales’s cancer diagnosis.
