If you're a plant owner, navigating the changing seasons can be a real challenge. Some green companions demand more TLC than others, so it's crucial to know which ones will need your undivided attention. Key survival tips include regular watering and ensuring they get plenty of sunlight. Houseplants are fabulous for adding a splash of colour to your interiors, but the fear of them dying off can be daunting. Fear not, as some plants are tough enough to withstand gloomy weather, with the peace lily being a prime example.
Experts advise that to keep your peace lily, or Spathiphyllum, thriving and prevent its leaves from turning brown, you should place it in a specific room – your bathroom. This is because peace lilies prefer warm and moderately humid conditions, away from dry air. Patch Plants also notes that peace lilies "will survive in most light conditions", so lack of natural light in your bathroom shouldn't be an issue. Despite their resilience, peace lilies do need moisture, but be wary of overwatering.
The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) recommends: "Mist plants regularly or stand them on a tray of damp gravel. The roots can rot if the compost is damp for long periods, so take care not to overwater." Gardening experts advise: "For good growth and flowering, feed every two weeks from spring to autumn. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust and improve photosynthesis.". They note that 'your plant can droop dramatically when it needs watering but perk up after a good drink'. The peace lily flourishes in humid environments, so steer clear of placing your houseplant near heat sources or cold drafts.
