Great British Bake Off star Laura Adlington, 36, shared a candid social media post about her personal struggles with confidence and self-acceptance. Posting a beach snap in a black one-shoulder swimsuit, Laura opened up about the conflicting emotions she experiences regarding her body image. Despite her commitment to body confidence, she admitted to grappling with thoughts of weight loss, even considering popular injections like Ozempic.
In a heartfelt caption, she wrote: "My name’s Laura, and I’m a walking contradiction. I accept myself and my body as it is now… but there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t think about being smaller. I believe all bodies are good bodies, yet I still sometimes feel like mine is ‘wrong.’. "I want to live free from diet culture, but I also wonder if losing weight would make life easier. I don’t judge others for changing their bodies, but I feel disappointed in myself for wanting to. I tell people they don’t need to shrink to be worthy, but sometimes, I wonder if my life would be simpler if I took up less space.".
She went on to express how the media’s focus on weight-loss treatments has left her feeling tempted, despite knowing they aren't a "magic fix.". "I want to rebel against beauty standards, but I also want to feel beautiful within them. Within these contradictions, I sometimes feel lost. My relationship with my body and food is messy, and sharing this makes me vulnerable. But I think honesty is important.".
Laura's post resonated with her followers and celebrity friends, many of whom praised her for her openness and courage. Harry Styles’ sister Gemma wrote: “I find it faaaaar more relatable to logically know and believe all the good things but still get taken out by all the s**t we’ve all absorbed - I think you do a brilliant job of talking about that honestly and that’s what we appreciate!” while This Morning legend Alison Hammond added: “love you and you are not alone.”.
This vulnerable moment comes after she recently embraced her curves on a sun-soaked getaway with her husband, Matt. The couple enjoyed a romantic beach retreat, with Laura radiating confidence in stylish swimwear. In one snapshot, she beamed, captioning the moment, "Salt water heals everything.". Laura has previously spoken about the challenges of self-acceptance, revealing that for years, she believed losing weight would lead to better experiences—whether in relationships, travel, or everyday life.
"I spent so much time waiting for ‘Laura 2.0’—the version of me that would be thinner, more adventurous, have better sex, deeper friendships," she admitted in a past interview. "But really, I was just putting my life on hold. If Covid taught us anything, it’s that life is short. You don’t need to have a small life just because you have a bigger body. Life is for living.".
