A woman found a human head outside of her Wayne County home and the image is ‘seared into her mind’. Shareka Smith called the police on November 20, when she stumbled upon what appeared to be a human skull, on land just behind her home. She told ABC11: “When I came and seen it I thought it was like Halloween decorations but then I thought my God, it’s got to be a human head.".
Shocked by what she’d seen, Shareka explained that she had no idea how long the skull may have been there, but added that it was her dog Boscoe who brought it to her attention. When police arrived on the scene, they searched the area around the mum-of-one’s home, but were unable to find anything further. However, last week Shareka found more remains just outside of her home.
According to the Wayne Co. Sheriff’s Office, it’s likely that both the skull and bones are from the same body. However, they’re unable to say whose remains they are or how they died. Shareka, who feels ‘scared’ by what’s happened, has explained that her family don’t feel safe. She explained: “I’m scared to go to the mailbox, I’m scared for my son to go to the bus stop.”.
The mum hopes that one day the mystery that family pooch Boscoe uncovered will be solved, and that it may give someone out there the peace they need. She said: “Whoever it is, and their family members I give my condolences to them. All I know is we’re living in a cold world, and we got to be safe out here.”.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office have said they don’t know how the remains got there or how long they had been there for. They added that the remains have been taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office to see if they were able to be identified.
