WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Severance season 1. Severance season two premieres tomorrow (January 17) on Apple TV+ with episodes airing weekly on the streaming platform with a total of 10 new instalments. The trailer for season two saw Mark S (played by Adam Scott) chatting to his fellow Lumon colleagues about the inside and outside worlds.
He said: “My Outie’s wife died a few years ago, except the woman is Ms Casey.”. Mark S added to Helly R (Britt Lower): “I gotta get her outta here.”. In season one, Mark S’ Outie was a widower after his wife and Russian literature teacher Gemma Scout (Dichen Lachman) died several years prior.
She was thought to have died in a car crash with everyone on the outside world believing Gemma was now deceased. However, it transpired halfway through season one, Gemma was actually an employee at Lumon Industries, working as the Wellness Director Ms Casey.
With the discovery of Gemma/Ms Casey, it seems she underwent the Severance procedure but there are many unanswered questions. There are various theories floating around about Gemma/Ms Casey considering her manner in Lumon. Unlike Mark S, Helly R, Irv (John Turturro) and the other employees of Lumon, she hasn’t retained any elements of her Outie personality, suggesting something more sinister may have taken place.
