WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Yellowjackets. Yellowjackets fans of the gripping Showtime and Paramount+ thriller, have been left in suspense for nearly two years, eagerly awaiting the next instalment. The wait is almost over, with season three set to premiere on Friday, February 14, on Paramount+ with Showtime, and on Sunday, February 16, on Showtime for US viewers. The first two episodes will be released on the initial start date, followed by weekly episodes thereafter.
So, as we gear up for the return of Yellowjackets, let's recap what happened in season two. In a shocking turn of events, Travis (Kevin Alves) is devastated when the girls bring back his brother Javi's (Luciano Leroux) body after Natalie lets him drown. Van (Lauren Ambrose) persuades him that his brother's death was a sacrifice to the wilderness for the survival of the rest. Shauna (Melanie Lynskey) then presents Travis with Javi's heart to eat first, signalling it was acceptable for the group to consume him.
Despite initial hesitation, Travis eats Javi's heart, demonstrating his loyalty to the group and his faith in the wilderness. In a dramatic turn of events, Lottie stepped aside as the wilderness' chosen one, despite being the first to communicate with it. She interpreted the wilderness's intervention in preventing Natalie's death after she drew the Queen of Hearts and her own position as lead hunter as signs that Natalie was the rightful leader.
Consequently, Lottie handed over the Antler Queen title to Natalie, much to Shauna's chagrin. In the present-day storyline, tension escalated when Shauna drew the Queen of Hearts, putting her life at risk as Lottie was prepared to kill her, though the others were hesitant. Van, however, persuaded Taissa (Tawny Cypress) to abandon their plan to disrupt the ritual and instead ensure Lottie's safety, as she began to think sacrificing Shauna might be the right move.
A chase ensued with Van and Lottie hot on Shauna's heels, seemingly intent on making her their next victim, but luckily, Misty (Christina Ricci), Natalie (Juliette Lewis), and Taissa reached her in time to prevent a potential tragedy. Meanwhile, Walter (Elijah Wood), determined to protect Misty and her friends, hatched a scheme to shield them from the repercussions of Adam Martin's (Peter Gadiot) murder.
He shot Kevyn Tan (Charlie Wright) using Saracusa's (John Reynolds) firearm and coerced him into framing Kevyn for the murders of both Adam and Jessica Roberts (Rekha Sharma), concocting a tale of police corruption that Saracusa supposedly "uncovered". After begrudgingly agreeing, Walter warned Saracusa that he had enough evidence to link their deaths back to him if he failed to comply, ensuring he kept his promise.
Natalie's demise came when Misty was poised to kill Lisa (Nicole Mains) with a syringe, intending her as the next wilderness sacrifice. However, at the last moment, Natalie intervened and was fatally stabbed with the syringe. She sacrificed herself, having lived most of her life burdened by guilt over Javi's fate, failing to save him when he was dying years ago. Natalie had struggled with daily life after their wilderness ordeal and had previously attempted suicide. Although this was her choice, it was evident how devastated Misty was to be the one administering the lethal injection.
After attempting to sacrifice Shauna, the group decided it was best to send Lottie to Whitmore, a mental health facility. Her faith in the wilderness entity had become too intense and posed a threat to them all. Back in the 1996 timeline, the girls fled from the cabin in terror as they realised it was ablaze. Heartbroken, they watched their home burn down, but in the distance, coach Ben Scott (Steven Krueger) observed the cabin burning.
